The residential schools are a very sensitive issue. Media is reporting about ‘mass unmarked graves’, implying mass murders and bodies dumped into pits. In fact, the grave sites also contain bodies of teachers and staff, along with students who attended the schools. Many of the sites were abandoned many years ago, so deterioration of wooden crosses may lead a person to wrongly assume they were never marked.
This is very misleading. The media know that the Truth and Reconciliation Committee has studied the residential schools in depth. Their reports are publicly available information to anyone who chooses to read and learn.
Of course the media knows that the public is mostly ignorant of the reports and their findings. So they just report anything, and people believe it. Some have forgotten about the TRC, and most have never read any of the reports.
its very sad that so many indigenous children died while attending the schools. According to the TRC study, tuberculosis was the main killer, along with Spanish flu. No cures were available so these diseases killed many people of all races. Indigenous folks immune systems weren’t adapted to these foreign diseases and they died at a higher rate. It was a tragedy.
After the TRC reports, apologies have been made, as well as financial compensation. It’s a sad part of our history, but we need to accept the past, forgive and move on.
The PPC will help address indigenous issues by abolishing the Indian Act, which is a prime example of what people might call systemic racism. We will treat first nations like all Canadians, and give them autonomy from a big government that wants to control their lives. We will build a new relationship based on mutual respect.

Read the article below and the related TRC link in the article. It’s important information which puts things into the proper context – which almost never happens these days with msm reports.
